Portraits
Black and white photography has always been popular. Many famous photos in history are in black and white, not because color didn’t exist, but because of their artistic value. Even in the second half of the 20th century, many famous photos were made in black and white.
This trend continues in the digital age. Many photographers who specialize in portraits, landscapes, and documentary photography are well-known and appreciated worldwide for their black and white work.
Today, we are lucky to have a choice: we can capture moments in color or black and white.

Minimalism and Simplicity Over Quantity
As the saying goes, “less is more.” As a portrait photographer, I believe this is true. Images with many colors can be beautiful, but they can also be too busy and lose their meaning. People are naturally drawn to faces in pictures, but if the main subject is surrounded by distractions, it doesn’t get the attention it deserves.
Portraits should focus on the main subject, and this is why black-and-white photography fits my style best. Serious & dramatic, black and white is all about the subject, light, shadows, and beautiful contrast.
Black and white photography is minimal and simple, allowing room for emotions and a bit of drama that turns a photo into a work of art. Most of my projects are in black and white, to create fine art portraits that I am proud of and that you can hang on your wall.
Black & White Photography Emphasizes Emotions
When you look at a black-and-white photograph of yourself, your children, or your family, you feel like you are connecting with their soul. There is a quote from Ted Grant, a famous Canadian photojournalist:
“When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in black and white, you photograph their souls!”
Ted Grant
“When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in black and white, you photograph their souls!”
Ted Grant
I love this quote because it reminds me of the true value of a photo: souls are more important than clothes.
Timeless Appeal
Black and white photography has a touch of romanticism and nostalgia, making it timeless. Colors in photos can match your character, which changes over time with new experiences. Black and white images will always reflect your true personality.
Many of you want to display your favorite photos at home, on your desk, or your wall. Color photos may not always match the decor, especially if you have colored walls. A black and white photo, however, will always look great, no matter where you display it.
I understand that everyone has their preferences. This is why during the editing process, I convert every image into black and white and present both versions to you. And you know what happens? Many times, people prefer the monochrome version.
